Biography
Ron Loo

BIOGRAPHY
Ron Loo is a Singapore-based composer, conductor, singer, and arts practitioner whose work explores themes of identity, belonging, empathy, and human connection. Best known for his contributions to choral music, he creates original choral and instrumental works inspired by personal experiences, contemporary social issues, and the journeys of young people navigating an increasingly complex world.
Ron's musical journey began as a classically trained boy soprano. Through his involvement in Singapore's vibrant choral community, including the Singapore Symphony Children's Choir and Voices of Singapore, he developed a deep appreciation for the power of collective music-making and storytelling through song. His dedication eventually led him to become a Voices of Singapore (VOS) Choral Scholar Artiste.
As a singer, Ron has performed at major venues in Singapore and abroad. In 2023, he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York with Voices of Singapore, marking a significant milestone in his artistic journey. He has also performed at Singapore’s iconic CHIJMES Hall alongside the Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble VOCES8. As a countertenor, he received a Gold Award and was among the highest-scoring participants at the 2021 Voices In Bloom International Singing Competition, adjudicated by Dr Ang Mei Foong and David Quah, founder of the Bel Canto Singers Foundation.
"Beautiful voice,
clear and pure"

For over a decade, Ron has studied under the artistic guidance of Dr Darius Lim, a relationship that has profoundly shaped his development as a musician and artist. As a choral scholar, he participated in numerous landmark performances, including the Orchestra of Music Makers’ production of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass and the Grand Opening of the Singapore State Courts. He was also featured as a soloist on Deliverance, a track from Lim’s choral album Songs of Dreams, released by the internationally renowned classical music label Naxos.
In 2023, Ron was offered conducting tutelage from Darius Lim, and has since conducted the VOS Choral Scholars. He also conducted the Dunman High School choir under the guidance of Albert Tay and Reuben Lai during his stint as student conductor from 2020-2023. His leadership of the VOS Choral Scholars and his work with the Dunman High School choir reflect his commitment to fostering talent in fellow young musicians. Ron continues to collaborate with the choir, most recently choreographing their Studio Ghibli suite at the invitation of Lai, while mentoring aspiring young conductors.
In 2024, Ron co-founded the choral ensemble D’Jam with musicians he had previously collaborated with. The group was established with a core mission to raise awareness of children with special needs in Singapore. Its repertoire is intentionally curated for both message and emotional depth, inviting audiences to engage more deeply with the lived social experiences of those pushed to the margins. As Artistic Director, Ron composed five choral works exploring themes of isolation, exclusion, and bigotry. These works were premiered in May 2025 at the Capitol Theatre Recital Hall in Singapore. Among them, My World Wears Chains was selected as a finalist in the New Works Rising composition competition by the Grammy-winning Phoenix Boys Choir. The ensemble also raised a significant sum of funds, which were donated to organisations supporting music programmes for marginalised communities.
In 2026, he returned to D'Jam as a guest conductor, premiering two new works at Singapore's National Library Building. It's Not Easy to Be..., inspired by Gordon Allport's theory of the Labels of Primary Potency, examines the impact of stereotyping and social labels on individual identity. His second premiere, Hope Is Where the Heart Is, is an instrumental tribute dedicated to a close friend written for piano (4-hands) and string ensemble.
Whether composing, conducting, performing, or leading artistic initiatives, Ron remains committed to creating music that connects people, sparks conversation, and fosters a deeper understanding of the human experience.
